Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.
Founded in 1988, Houston Buddhist Vihara is the largest Sri Lankan Buddhist temple in Texas. The Vihara serves members of various nationalities. Members are predominantly of Sri Lankan origin.
Monthly Dhamma talks, multi-day meditation retreats are held for members. Sunday Dhamma school is the main attraction. Currently more than 75 students attend the Dhamma school.
Vesak and Kathina ceremonies are the major Buddhist related events celebrated at the Vihara.
On January 1st of each year a blessing service is held. In April of each year a Sri Lankan New Year celebration is held by the students of the Dhamma school.
The monks provide services as required.
Houston Buddhist Vihara is a non-profit religious organization duly registered in Texas. Members provide sustenance to the monks by providing all necessities (Daana). The Vihara expenses are met with voluntary donations made by members.
